We are oh so proud to present our upcoming exhibit In Recent Fears.
From the delightfully curious and playful grey matter of Timothy Belliveau comes a collection of new works and prints. Take a jaunt through the bright colours, unique textures and imaginative ‘scapes of these new works.
Artist Statement
Joseph Campbell said in an interview once “We cannot have myth today, things are changing too fast”. It feels like they’re still around though, particularly in fears lots of people can share. The changing climate is often reported as a scary fact now. It’s a lasting, continual change that we can worry and speculate about for a long time and I think there’s mythology in that. I’m fascinated with wilderness; it’s decline in recent years, and whatever we do in the future to keep it. Procrastinating on dealing with the declining environment has caused it to attack like Jonah’s whale, in massive floods and radical weather. I’m caught between fantasies of running away into the woods or living in the biggest post-apocalypse cities of the future. Freelance illustrating has given me some ability to render the images I come up with. Profound things in daily conversation end up in my work too and I base some illustrations on things said to me. This show comprises some thoughts, words and images over the last two years.
Information
This show will actually be running for all of February – but Feb 7 is the day to come if you want to mingle with the artist while enjoying Steamwhistle. There will also be a special showing movie which will start at 9.
